Thinking

The field of applied research through design is still relatively young and with many open questions to explore. Especially this aspect fascinates me as it is challenging, but it also offers opportunities for active contribution at the same time.

I believe that both design methods can improve the way people work across disciplines and that user involvement can lead to more successful outputs. To what extent can visual, haptic, interactive and experimental prototypes promote the transfer of knowledge between transdisciplinary teams and drive innovation? How can design change organisational structures and support processes? I observe this topic with great interest and continually question the added value of design.

Richard Buchanan, 2015

»Put simply, the challenge for design is how to influence organizations not only to affect the thinking and behaviour of individuals, but also to have a positive effect on human experience in an increasingly com-plex world.«
